Our Services - Clients
Together with NorthStar's experienced Employment Consultants, we tailor an employment pathway plan that best suits each individual client's needs.

Our specialised programs include:                                    

Pre-employment
Pre-employment Consultants provide one to one individualised assistance with clients in a number of areas including:
  • developing job search strategies
  • resumé preparation and presentation
  • application letters (tailored to each job application)
  • phone and interview techniques
  • attending interviews with clients (if appropriate)
  • accessing vocational training opportunities
  • assisting with specialist support agencies including Centrelink
  • travel training (if appropriate)
  • client ‘pre-screens’ to assess job skills which can be matched to local employers
Employment Support
Job Support Case Workers provide ongoing assistance for clients who have secured employment. Assistance can include:
  • assistance with employment induction processes and paperwork
  • worksite skills training (if needed)
  • liaising with supervisors and employers and negotiating workplace modifications (if needed)
  • ongoing on-the-job support and worksite visits to help with job retention (if required)
  • mediation between client and employer if needed
  • ongoing client contact even if the above is not required
  • ongoing job support is offered away from the worksite if this is preferred
Preparation for Employment and Access to Community Program (PEAC)
In addition to our mainstream services, NorthStar runs an employment focussed program to assist young people with particular disadvantages to gain employment. Based at our office in Epping, PEAC staff work to develop skills, motivation, initiative and confidence. The program includes:
  • job search training
  • hands on workplace experience though a range of industries
  • workplace skills training

Getting It Together – Job Seeker Workshops
NorthStar runs 6-8 week modular programs for groups that focus on developing their understanding of the labour market and their job searching skills using brain storming, role play and group work techniques to look at areas including:

  • understanding job advertisements
  • career planning
  • self marketing
  • workplace skills
  • resumé development
  • applications for employment vacancies

NorthStar also uses specialist knowledge in a number of other areas that affect clients. These include:

Employment Awareness
Developing an understanding of Industrial Relations and Occupational Health and Safety.

Market Awareness
Developing links and partnerships with the local business community and understanding market trends to assist job matching clients to vacancies.

Cultural Awareness
Addressing barriers faced by people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds when entering the workforce.

School to Work Transition
Assisting local schools and young people in their transition from educational settings to employment.

Social Awareness
Supporting people to overcome barriers and stigmas when entering the workforce.

Return to Work
Supporting people who have not been in the workforce for a long period of time to re-enter successfully. NorthStar offers support that is particularly suited to school leavers and those receiving the Disability Support Pension.

Disengaged Youth
Supporting young people who have tried unsuccessfully to find employment due to a variety of reasons. They may have been unsuccessful in finding appropriate employment or have been unsuccessful in finding any employment.
